A migration project with thousands of pages and multiple integrations
The Adfiz website has evolved over the years into a comprehensive knowledge and information platform. With thousands of pages of content, news articles, dossiers, and events, the website played a central role in communication with financial advisors. At the same time, the platform was still running on Umbraco 7, a version that was technically at the end of its lifecycle.
The organisation wanted to upgrade to the latest version of Umbraco, without losing existing content or having it unavailable for an extended period. Additionally, the website needed to integrate with new systems, including the Efficy CRM and an external events platform.
The biggest challenge lay in the volume of content and the technical differences between the old and new Umbraco versions. Many pages relied on legacy components such as the Grid editor and macros. These had to be converted to modern building blocks without editors losing functionality.
With a migration approach based on Umbraco Cloud, we were able to carry out the transition in a controlled manner. The existing content structure was automatically translated into new content models. Legacy grid elements were converted to Block Grid and macros to Block Elements, enabling editors to work with flexible, modular content blocks.
Old content is available on the new site with new editors.
In this way, not all content needs to be re-entered but has been migrated without legacy property editors.
Later, these can still be rebuilt into the new templates if needed.
In parallel with the migration, we implemented several integrations. Events from the CRM can now be directly selected and displayed on the website. Forms and workflows are linked to the CRM, automatically processing registrations and interactions. The news service has also been integrated with Apsis, allowing newsletters to be automatically populated with content from the CMS.
The result is a stable and future-proof platform on which Adfiz can build further. The editorial team works with modern content blocks, integrations with external systems run automatically, and the website is technically ready for further development.
