Switching without starting over
Switching Service
Most things don't need to go
Your website is with a provider that you can no longer work with, or it is technically outdated. This rarely means everything needs to be discarded. Most of the time, the problem lies in the maintenance surrounding it, not in what is there.
Rebuilding is the obvious route, and usually the most expensive. With the Migration Service, your content and structure remain the starting point. As an organisation, you don’t need to make all choices again. We will take you to an up-to-date version of Umbraco on Umbraco Cloud and then develop further in small steps.
Every migration starts with the Platform Scan. After five working days, you will know what is there, what the migration will cost, and what to expect.

Start with the Platform scan
This is the moment to switch
Your website is running on a version that is no longer supported, or will be soon
You are at a standstill with your current provider, but you don't want to throw everything away
No one really knows how the site is structured
There is a quote for a rebuild, and you're wondering if that's necessary
When you probably won’t need to make this transition
Your current provider delivers. If you only want a newer version, then an upgrade with that provider is usually quicker and cheaper than switching.
The issue lies mainly within your organisation. If the problem is how your team works with the website, then a different provider or platform won't solve that.
The scan rejects it. If we find something that makes switching unwise, we'll say so. Even if that costs us the assignment.
If you're unsure which of these applies to you, first present it to one of the owners in half an hour.

-
1
Inspection
Part of the Platform Scan. We map out what is in place: the platform and the version, customisation, integrations, hosting, security, licences, and how transferable the whole thing is.
-
2
Proposal
Part of the Platform scan. You will receive the findings, the risks, and a proposal at a fixed price and fixed scope. The report is yours, even if you do not proceed further.
-
3
Transfer
We organise access, repository, documentation, environments, DNS and licences. We will only proceed once none of what you need is still solely with the previous party.
-
4
Transfer
To an up-to-date version of Umbraco on Umbraco Cloud, with a set up deployment pipeline. Content and media will be included, we will retest the connections. How the transfer will proceed exactly depends on where you are coming from.
-
5
Test and acceptance
Functional testing, performance, security and accessibility. You accept in the staging environment before anything goes live.
-
6
Going live and aftercare
The new environment runs alongside the existing one, which will continue to operate until the last moment. Going live involves a DNS change that takes a few minutes. After that, there will be two weeks of heightened alertness with active monitoring, after which management will transfer to the service agreement.
The scan has a fixed price, and the switch afterwards as well
The Platform scan costs €750 excluding VAT and lasts five working days. It is the only part that we carry out without knowing what we will encounter.
Afterwards, you will receive a fixed-price proposal with a fixed scope, valid for 60 days. No post-calculation. Additional work only if you request it, and only after agreement.
The cost of the transition depends on what we find. These are the factors that matter most, and they are precisely the factors that the scan examines:
Where you are coming from, and how far that is from a current version of Umbraco
How much custom work there is
The number of integrations with other systems, and how well those are documented
The content volume: pages, media, and languages
Whether the site needs to comply with WCAG 2.2 AA, and how far it currently deviates from that
After the launch, Umbraco Cloud and we will manage it together.
Umbraco Cloud provides hosting, infrastructure and backups, platform updates and security patches, certificates, and a development, staging, and production environment. We take care of the work on top of that.
We bill hosting at the list price of Umbraco Cloud, without markup. Management falls under one of our service packages: Support, Retainer, or Enterprise. Which package is suitable can be determined from the scan. What each package includes and costs is outlined side by side in one product sheet that you can request.
-
Application management.
Management and monitoring of the application that has been built for you. -
Upgrades.
Major version upgrades of Umbraco and maintenance of packages. -
Incidents.
If something goes wrong, we will handle it according to the agreements in your service package. -
Further development.
Continuing to build in small steps, within a fixed monthly budget.
Each previous transition made the next one more predictable
Each acquisition has generated checks that we standardly perform since then. Therefore, we can provide a fixed price after five working days.

What customers most often ask about switching
First look at what is there, then decide
You don’t need to decide anything yet. After five working days, you’ll have a report that will inform you whether switching is worthwhile and what it will cost. Even if the advice is not to proceed.
